Working Your Way Back.
Hello my Helo Fam!
Today, I would like to talk to you about coming back from some time off – whether it is from an injury, or a long work trip vacation, or this crazy thing I like to call LIFE.
But before I get into that, I would like to tell you what inspired this musing. About two months ago, Randi and I decided that we wanted to move our family to West Jordan. We subsequently went through the process of selling and buying a house which has taken a lot of my time away from Helo, and that deeply saddens me, but I do my best to get in for wods as much as possible.
Now, with that being said, I haven’t been as consistent as I would like to be. So in order to not injure myself, I have been going into wods knowing that I shouldn’t go 100%. The reason being is because, in reality, what was once my 100% is more like 80% now.
I have been following this plan of reduced effort going into workouts when I haven’t had consistent weeks and at the end of the wod, I’m glad that I did. Because I was still able to reach the desired intensity without doing damage to myself. Once I can be more consistent with wods, I will stop doing this and push myself again in workouts knowing that my body is ready for it.
There is a podcast that I have listened to in the past and I just recently listened to it again where Ben Bergeron talks about coming back. The podcast is Chasing Excellence with Ben Bergeron Episode #064 where he talks about this and gives a good general outline of how to go about working your way back. I encourage you to give it a listen if you’re working your way back into the box.
Thanks for reading!
Sincerely,
Coach Manny
